YWCA Downtown Center
Parenting Classes
The YWCA Divorcing Parenting Program is certified through Knox County Fourth Circuit Court. It is a 12-hour parent education course which meets once a week, three hours per night for four weeks. Those interested can sign up for Monday, Tuesday, OR Thursday night classes. Once a night is selected, participants must continue on that night until they have completed all four sessions. Divorcing parents are not permitted to attend the same class together and childcare is not provided.
The goals of the YWCA Divorcing Parenting Program are to provide parents with an opportunity to think about issues surrounding divorce, to learn new skills for negotiation, and to prepare to avoid a negative divorce experience for themselves and their children. Through this program, our goal is to reduce conflict and stress, enhance communication, foster closer relationships between parents and children, and achieve better adjustment throughout the different stages of the divorce process.
Classes include group discussions, interactive activities, reviewing literature, viewing videos, and lecture. Each participant receives a folder of classroom exercises and community resources. Classes are taught by qualified YWCA Victim Advocacy Program staff and community volunteers.
Classes are held at the YWCA, 420 West Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902. For more information about availability and costs, please contact us at 865-523-6126.
