Positions Available:

YWCA Domestic Violence Victim Advocate, Hispanic Population

We are seeking to immediately fill this position for a Victim Advocate who will provide advocacy to Hispanic, immigrant, refugee, and disabled victims of domestic violence.  This advocate will work closely with the Family Justice Center, Knoxville Police Department, and other partner agencies.

Skills:

  • Bilingual (Fluent in oral and written English and Spanish)
  • Leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of overall community resources
  • Understanding of Hispanic culture
  • Computer skills

 

Responsibilities:

  • Counsel victims regarding domestic violence and service options
  • Provide direction and support to victims through the legal process
  • Follow procedures in retrieving case files, completing forms, and case documentation
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure that partners maintain confidentiality
  • Identify victims’ immediate needs
  • Interact with agencies/businesses within the Hispanic community to cultivate resources for Hispanic victims and their families
  • Ensure the delivery of culturally and linguistically specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Work with YWCA staff and partner agencies to develop and implement training materials for persons working with Hispanic victims and a curriculum to educate Hispanic youth
  • Facilitate training and community education

 

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in domestic violence victim assistance/legal advocacy/immigration or life experiences that indicate sensitivity to victim issues.  A High School Diploma will be accepted with extensive experience in advocacy or working with immigrant populations to supplement additional education.

YWCA Health and Fitness Counselor

This is a part-time position for an After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Health and Fitness Counselor who will plan and implement health, fitness, and recreational activities for students participating in YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center ASEP.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing a safe and secure environment;
  • Planning challenging, enriching, age-appropriate      activities;
  • Mentoring;
  • Engaging parents, partners, community leaders, and      volunteers;
  • Accurately maintain and present necessary statistical      data as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must  have a physical examination and a police background check.  Must have experience working with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and have effective human relations skills; must be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and creative.

 

YWCA Academic Counselor
This is a part-time position for an After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Academics Counselor who will plan and implement academic activities for students participating in Phyllis Wheatley Center ASEP during the 2012-2013 school year.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentoring and tutoring;

  • Accurately maintain and present necessary statistical      data as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; associates degree in education, business, or technical field preferred.  Must have a physical examination and a police background check.  Must have experience working with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and have effective human relations skills; must be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and creative.

Part-time Fitness Instructors with competent knowledge in a variety of classes with certification and/or experience. Belly Dancing Instructor, Tai Chi Instructor and Zumba Instructors, etc.
