The YWCA is on a mission to continue our advocacy efforts throughout the year with our new campaign for 2017, “Shining a Light.” If you are interested in joining the DVAM committee please email Jessica Fithian at Meetings will begin in February 2017.


2016 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events: 

Social Media Kick-Off: Raise awareness on social media by using #ThatsJustWrongKnox when sharing anything DVAM-related and by changing your Facebook and Twitter cover photos to match those of the YWCA Knoxville for the month of October.

DVAM Ribbon Event: Help the YWCA cover downtown in purple ribbons beginning October 2 at 5:00pm. Raise awareness in neighborhoods or businesses during the month of October with a purple bow from the YWCA, and wear a purple lapel ribbon. Contact the YWCA at 523-6126 if you are ip1000095nterested in getting a bow or lapel ribbon.

First Friday: Stop by our downtown location on October 7, 5:30-8:00pm for a special evening at the YWCA Knoxville for music, entertainment, light refreshments, an activity for children and art from domestic violence survivors and other community members. 420 West Clinch Ave

“Where Are We Now” Press Event: YWCA Knoxville will be announcing new prevention efforts on October 14 at 8:30 AM for the upcoming year and update the community on GameChangers. Information
about domestic violence on a local and state level, services the YWCA provides and plans for the future will be presented. 420 West Clinch Ave.

“What Now?” Training Event: We know domestic violence is just wrong, but what now? Join us in a conversation on how to safely intervene and talk about domestic violence on October 21 from 6:00-8:00 PM at South College. 400 Goody’s Lane.

Candlelit Survivors Walk: Join us for a candlelit walk on October 28 at 7:00 PM around downtown, ending in Market Square, to honor survivors, victims and families impacted by of domestic violence. Beginning and ending at the YWCA Downtown Center. 420 West Clinch Ave.
