YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center Assistant Director, Full Time

The YWCA Knoxville seeks a knowledgeable, committed social service professional to join its team as the Phyllis Wheatley Center Assistant Director.  This full-time position will assist in the direction of all programs at the Phyllis Wheatley Center. Duties include leading the counseling staff of the after school program and summer camp, coordinating Y-Teen functions, daily administrative functions of the center, and general oversight of the facility.

Must have:

  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Desire to engage community members in center programming
  • Experience creating and implementing programming with at risk youth
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR

Preferred is a Bachelor’s degree with major emphasis in education, social sciences, or equivalent experience. Must have experience with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and have effective human relations skills.  Must possess knowledge of licensing rules and childcare regulations. Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule and accept on call duties.  Requires possession of organizational, numerical, communication, interpersonal, leadership and supervisory skills.

Domestic Violence Victim Advocate

Full-Time, Knox and Anderson County

Position Description
The YWCA Knoxville seeks an energetic, passionate victim advocate focused on domestic violence in the African American population.  The successful candidate will have experience in working in the area of domestic violence in urban and rural areas.

The Domestic Violence Advocate will counsel and provide crisis intervention to African American victims in Knox and Anderson County, Tennessee which impacts over 1,500 clients annually. This will include identifying victims’ needs, maintaining confidentiality, insuring the delivery of culturally specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Qualifications
Minimum educational requirement for this position is Bachelor level education in social work or counseling, or experience equivalent. Familiarity with social service and community action agencies, and customer service delivery programs.  Strong writing and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations.

Director of Women’s Services

Full-Time, Knox County

Position Description
Due to new growth, the YWCA Knoxville seeks an energetic, passionate leader focused domestic violence and transitional housing work as the Director of Women’s Services. The successful candidate will have significant experience in working with women and families in the areas of domestic violence and housing.

The Director of Women’s Services will oversee the Women’s Housing Program and Victim Advocacy programming in Knox County, Tennessee which impacts over 1,500 clients annually. This will include insuring the delivery of quality services and providing continuity throughout both programs through collaboration, maintaining relationships with community partners, and overseeing quality assurance standards. The position will also plan for future program growth and development.

Qualifications
Minimum educational requirement for this position is Master level education in social work or counseling, or similar discipline. Familiarity with social service and community action agencies, and customer service delivery programs.  Strong writing and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations. Previous supervision and program development experience required.

Transitional Housing Coordinator

Position Description
Due to new growth, The YWCA Knoxville seeks a knowledgeable, passionate leader focused on domestic violence and transitional housing work as the Transitional Housing Coordinator in Anderson County. The successful candidate will have experience in working with women in transition.

The Transitional Housing Coordinator will provide crisis intervention to women in transition in Anderson County, Tennessee. This will include advocating, counseling, and referring clients to social and health care service, obtaining and maintaining permanent housing, and leading psychoeducation and skill development groups.  This position will also plan for future program growth and development

Freedom Inside Case Manager

Position Description
The YWCA Knoxville seeks a knowledgeable, committed case manager to join the Freedom Inside Program. The successful candidate will have experience in working with women in transition, incarceration, and domestic violence.

The Case Manager will provide crisis intervention to incarcerated women who have a history of domestic violence in transition in Knox County, Tennessee. This will include advocating, counseling, and referring clients to social and health care service, employment, housing, and other services as needed.

Freedom Inside Therapist 

Part-Time, Knox County

The YWCA Knoxville seeks a knowledgeable, licensed part-time therapist to join the Freedom Inside Program. The successful candidate will have experience in working with women in transition, incarceration, and domestic violence.

This position will counsel and provide crisis intervention to incarcerated women who have a history of domestic violence in transition in Knox County, Tennessee. This will include individual and group counseling both pre-and post-release and working with a team of professionals to advocate for appropriate referrals and services.

Qualifications
This position requires a valid license to practice counseling or therapy, including conditional licenses. Minimum education is a Master level education in social work or counseling. Familiarity with social service and community action agencies, and customer service delivery programs.  Strong writing and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations.

After-School Enrichment Program Team Member

This position works in our After School Enrichment Program for middle-school-age youth which is located at our Phyllis Wheatley Center. We seek high quality, professional role-models with diverse skill-sets to provide individualized attention to students’ needs.

We are looking for staff who are truly passionate about impacting the lives of young people and who are supportive and engaging.

Part-time: approximately 22.5 hrs. per week

Salary: $10.25 – $10.75 hr. depending on experience

Weekend Front Desk Receptionist

YWCA Knoxville is hiring for a third shift (11pm – 7 am) weekend receptionist.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include; providing excellent customer service, community referrals, assistance to all program directors and scheduling and supervising 24 hour front desk staff. Daytime hours with on-call responsibilities.  Job requires ability to multi-task and a great attitude.  Requires strong attention to detail, excellent judgment and the ability to work without close supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft office, required. Prior supervision experience preferred.  A minimum of a high school diploma and relevant experience.

Evening/Weekend Lifeguard

General Description of Position:

Under general supervision of the Health and Fitness Director.  Lifeguards pool for aquatic classes, open swim and swimming lessons for the YWCA Club W.   Has strong knowledge and experience in lifeguarding.  Work outside of facility as a Club W ambassador.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Using the knowledge of YWCA programs and policies, promotes Association and Mission Statement in the community. Interacts with other program personnel, volunteers, and staff to meet the needs of all YWCA members and participants.  Participates in Association activities as necessary.
  2. Accepts pool responsibility and attends mandatory trainings put forth by the Health and Fitness Director.
  3. Listens to clients, instructors and community to assist in the Club W development.
  4.  Responsible for staying up-to-date with all certifications, especially CPR. Carries proof of CPR training at all times.
  5. Will work with the YWCA to ensure that the pool facility is clean and safe.
  6. Follows the YWCA policies and procedures in a case of an injury. The instructor/lifeguard will complete an incident report, available at the front desk.
  7. Promote memberships, awareness of programs and class offerings.
  8. Must be cognizant of emergency exits, fire extinguisher and telephone in case of emergency.
  9. Will notify the director two weeks in advance for planned absences. If you are ill, please call a substitute to cover your shift.
  10. Maintains confidentiality.
  11. Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Training Required to Meet Position Responsibilities:

A high school diploma with lifeguard certification required. Should have paid or volunteer experience in lifeguarding and be over the age of 16.  Requires skills and life experiences that indicate sensitivity to health related issues and low-income individuals.  Must be reliable and come with good references.  Requires possession of organizational, communicational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
