Director of Events
Full-time: Reports directly to the CEO and is a member of the leadership team.

Position Description:

The Director of Events is responsible for the management and coordination of all events of the YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley. This position develops sponsorship arrangements and forms excellent relationships with businesses, individuals and organizations interested in supporting the YWCA’s events and activities.

The Director of events must have a passion for the mission of the YWCA and for event management, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional and be able to build positive relationships with internal and external supporters/donors/volunteers and others.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements and leads follow-up activities for all special events and annual receptions.
  • Develops and maintains event databases.
  • Coordinates all event logistics.
  • Assists with the preparation of event budgets. Meets or exceeds event budgets.
  • Secures sponsorships and in-kind donations for each event.
  • Cultivates and expands event sponsorships.
  • Supervises and coordinates with event contractors/vendors/volunteers and others.
  • Works with the PR Director to promote events including advertising and collateral material design, production and distribution.
  • Manages all aspects of event focused volunteer committees, volunteer coordination, including but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, supervision, training and acknowledgement.
  • Leads event committees assuring that committee participation is relevant, enhances the event content and planning, and meets the expectations of committee members.
  • Annually develops and implements event planning calendars and materials.
  • Actively participates with staff committees as necessary and appropriate.
  • Assists CEO in donor development and other fundraising activities as appropriate.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have:

  • Excellent oral communication skills and writing expertise, an understanding of the mission of the YWCA, and enthusiasm for the people served and the programs created.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with a variety of staff, volunteers, board members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in person by phone and in writing, with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Must have a “people first” attitude and possess the ability to think creatively, work under pressure and within time constraints, and work efficiently as part of a team.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills, and a desire to work with various constituencies.
  • Works very well as part of a team.
  • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office and Social Media marketing.

Graduation from a 4-year college or university or a minimum of two to four years of experience in a paid special events/marketing position, preferred. Evidence of successful event, sponsorship acquisition, marketing, and public relations activities, required.

Domestic Violence Victim Advocate

Full-Time, Knox County
We are seeking to fill this position for a Victim Advocate who will provide advocacy to Knox County victims of domestic violence.
Skills:

  • Leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of overall community resources
  • Computer skills

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and support victims in the community, criminal, and civil court processes by identification of resources, rights, and domestic violence related services.
  • Ensure the delivery of specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Work with law enforcement, the courts and court staff, government entities and others to assure victims are receiving the highest quality of support to victims as they negotiate these systems.
  • Follow procedures in retrieving case files, completing forms, and case documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure that partners maintain confidentiality.
  • Interact with agencies/businesses within the community to cultivate resources for victims and their families.
  • Facilitate training and community education events.
  • Trains, teaches, and guides staff, community members, and fellow partners in the implementation of domestic violence related program activities using best practice social work theory and methods.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of legal system and role of victim advocate.
  • Act as a positive emissary for the agency within the organization and in the community.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in domestic violence victim assistance/legal advocacy or life experiences that indicate sensitivity to victim issues. Requires experience in and knowledge of Knox County resources and services. A High School Diploma will be accepted with extensive experience in advocacy or working with victims of domestic violence to supplement additional education.

YWCA Creative Arts Counselor

This position works in our After School Enrichment Program for middle-school-age youth which is located at our Phyllis Wheatley Center. We seek high quality, professional role-models with diverse skill-sets to provide individualized attention to students’ needs. We are looking for staff who are truly passionate about impacting the lives of young people and who are supportive and engaging.

Part-time: Monday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00pm

Rate: $10.25

Responsibilities:

  • Providing a safe and secure environment;
  • Planning, challenging, enriching, age-appropriate activities;
  • Demonstrates a passion for art
  • Creatively interact with middle-age children
  • Builds connections with students and demonstrates the usefulness of content and builds confidence based on accomplishment
  • Enhances learning with the kinds of experiences that the school day has less time to provide
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; associates degree, preferred. Must be willing to be certified in First Aid and CPR for adults and children, have a physical examination and a criminal background check. Must have experience working with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and must possess effective human relations skills; must be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and creative.

YWCA After-School Sports and Fitness Specialist

Phyllis Wheatley Center- Front Desk Clerk

Under general supervision of the Director of the Phyllis Wheatley Center, this part-time position is responsible for front desk customer service, assisting YWCA members, clients and the first-line point of contact for the center. Provides administrative support services to the agency administration. We seek high quality, professional role-models with diverse skill-sets to provide individualized attention to students’ needs. We are looking for staff who are truly passionate about impacting the lives of young people and who are supportive and engaging.

Part-time: Monday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00pm

Salary: based on experience

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Using the knowledge of YWCA programs and policies, promotes association and mission statement in the community. Interacts with other program personnel and volunteers to meet the needs of all YWCA members and participants.
  • Assist guests of the organization
  • Monitors attendance log
  • Accepts payments and records receipts.
  • Maintains security of the building by remaining alert to who is in the building, conducting regular rounds, and what is going on through communication with supervisor
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Education to Meet Position Requirements Job requires ability to multi-task and a great attitude. Requires strong attention to detail, excellent judgment and the ability to work without close supervision. A minimum of a high school diploma and relevant experience.


PRN Front Desk Receptionist

YWCA Knoxville is looking for a PRN receptionist.    Responsibilities include; providing excellent customer service, community referrals, assistance to program directors and being able to multi-task.  A GREAT ATTITUDE is required. Will need help as needed and over holidays including: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. This is a part-time position with the opportunity for advancement.

Evening/Weekend Lifeguard

General Description of Position:

Under general supervision of the Health and Fitness Director.  Lifeguards pool for aquatic classes, open swim and swimming lessons for the YWCA Club W.   Has strong knowledge and experience in lifeguarding.  Work outside of facility as a Club W ambassador.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Using the knowledge of YWCA programs and policies, promotes Association and Mission Statement in the community. Interacts with other program personnel, volunteers, and staff to meet the needs of all YWCA members and participants.  Participates in Association activities as necessary.
  2. Accepts pool responsibility and attends mandatory trainings put forth by the Health and Fitness Director.
  3. Listens to clients, instructors and community to assist in the Club W development.
  4.  Responsible for staying up-to-date with all certifications, especially CPR. Carries proof of CPR training at all times.
  5. Will work with the YWCA to ensure that the pool facility is clean and safe.
  6. Follows the YWCA policies and procedures in a case of an injury. The instructor/lifeguard will complete an incident report, available at the front desk.
  7. Promote memberships, awareness of programs and class offerings.
  8. Must be cognizant of emergency exits, fire extinguisher and telephone in case of emergency.
  9. Will notify the director two weeks in advance for planned absences. If you are ill, please call a substitute to cover your shift.
  10. Maintains confidentiality.
  11. Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Training Required to Meet Position Responsibilities:

A high school diploma with lifeguard certification required. Should have paid or volunteer experience in lifeguarding and be over the age of 16.  Requires skills and life experiences that indicate sensitivity to health related issues and low-income individuals.  Must be reliable and come with good references.  Requires possession of organizational, communicational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
